Project Overview

The Urban Green Corridor is a city-wide initiative to weave 28 kilometres of connected parkland through Bhubaneswar’s dense urban fabric, linking residential zones to transit nodes with shaded paths, native flora, and continuous public open space.

Why This Matters

A continuous green canopy cools the city, filters air, and gives residents a daily, walkable connection to nature. Restoring that connectivity strengthens both ecological function and everyday quality of life across the neighbourhoods it passes through.

Current Situation

A decade of rapid expansion had fractured Bhubaneswar’s once-continuous green canopy into isolated pockets, leaving residents without safe, shaded routes between parks, transit, and the historic old town.

How We’re Helping

Corridors are planted with native Eastern Ghats species, paired with stormwater swales, seating, and community garden plots every 400 metres. Since opening, temperatures along the route have dropped 2.4°C in peak summer, with over 18,000 daily pedestrian and cyclist journeys.
