Project Overview

The Coastal Mangrove Revival is a community-led restoration initiative focused on rebuilding degraded mangrove ecosystems along the coastline near Puri, Odisha. By combining ecological restoration, local participation, and long-term stewardship, the project aims to strengthen coastal resilience while protecting biodiversity and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

Why This Matters

Mangroves are one of nature's most effective coastal defenses. They reduce the impact of storm surges, prevent shoreline erosion, improve water quality, and provide essential habitats for fish, birds, and other wildlife. Restoring these ecosystems not only protects the environment but also safeguards the communities that depend on healthy coastal landscapes for their future.

Current Situation

Years of coastal erosion, urban expansion, and environmental degradation have significantly reduced mangrove cover across the region. As natural barriers disappear, nearby villages face increasing risks from flooding, stronger cyclones, declining fish populations, and the loss of biodiversity. Without timely restoration, these challenges are expected to intensify with climate change.

How We're Helping

Our approach combines scientific restoration with local action. We work alongside community members to plant native mangrove species, restore degraded coastal habitats, monitor ecosystem health, and provide environmental education and training programs. Through long-term maintenance, volunteer participation, and partnerships with local organizations, we're rebuilding resilient coastlines that can support both people and nature for generations to come.
